Support Larkin Place – Email your elected officials Email Claremont City Council0 Dear City Council members: I am a proud supporter of Larkin Place, and I believe that Claremont has a responsibility to stand up for human dignity and do our part in bringing our unhoused neighbors indoors, helping end our region’s homelessness crisis. I believe in permanent supportive housing as a safe and effective housing model because of the ample and credible evidence that supports it. I know that our LA County leaders believe in the model because they committed nearly $100 million to new PSH developments with the expectation that every community does its part to house people who have experienced homelessness. I also believe in Jamboree Housing Corporation’s extensive experience, demonstrated success, and proven commitment to being a good neighbor, as they have shown for over a decade at Courier Place. I have not been convinced by the opposition to Larkin Place that the development puts our community in any danger. I am dismayed by the opposition’s insistence that people experiencing homelessness and those with mental health or substance use disabilities pose a threat to our schoolchildren, families, or seniors. This belief is rooted in stigma and fear, and it is not supported by the evidence or Jamboree’s many years of success operating these developments in communities like Claremont and neighborhoods that are near parks and schools. In fact, a recent study published by UCI that aggregated crime data with affordable housing projects located in Orange County found that the siting of affordable housing reduces most types of crime, especially violent crime, and has no negative impact on home values. I fully support Claremont’s investment of $1.5 million for Larkin Place because it demonstrates the City’s commitment to partnering with Jamboree and holding Jamboree accountable to its good neighbor assurances. A vote against this investment only increases the likelihood of an SB35 claim. I fully support the parking easement because it is necessary for the community-oriented design Jamboree has proposed. A vote against the easement only takes away from the thoughtful design of the building. Larkin Place is Claremont’s duty to meet the crisis of homelessness, and I urge every councilmember to support it and take part in its success. %your signature%You can add formatting using markdown syntax - read more Send Email Share this with your friends:
